Summer was so busy with activity and riding that we barely remembered business!
Toronto Off Road Bicycling Association achieved many different accomplishments over the last few months; we recieved and adopted our Bylaw; expanded our Board of Directors, and held many successful meetings at York Reception Centre.
Contributions continue to pour in, and the TORBA bank account is in good hands, and good shape.
On trail, Don Rats Racing sprinted out of the gate with the TORBA logo onboard, and represented phenomenally well at Chico Racing's Hot August Nights, and Duke's Epic 8 at Hardwood Hills. Jerseys have gone on sale to support the team and spread outreach, and man do they look great! The team should be congratulated for taking the initiative to do what they've done, and from all accounts, next season will be epic.
TORBA members participated in not one but two historic and landmark-setting trail builds, under the guidance of IMBA's Subaru Trail Care Crew, and IMBA Canada reps. Many more kilometers of sweet singletrack were built and opened, to the satisfaction of plenty. While trail closures take place to maintain the forest and reduce erosion, it is encouraging to see the City Of Toronto and the Sustainable Trails Initiative working with TORBA, sticking to the plan, and keeping their word. There is more to come. Much more
Trail_Head's Weekly Group Rides were consistently a success, thanks to the dedication of our President, and constant attendance from riders. These rides fulfilled many of TORBA's objectives, like serving and supporting off road cyclists; fostering goodwill and sportsmanship; and promoting, advocating, and expanding off road cycling culture. The Weekly Group Ride also delivered fun while riding bikes. And isnt' that the most important!?!
Fall brings change. Life-sustaining leaves change colour and fall off trees, leaving them barren and dormant. Their absence creates the opportunity for new growth. They line the forest floor, sheltering the soil from erosive impact, and disintegrate to nourish the Earth with their essences. In a way, the leaves continue to work even when they are disconnected from the tree. And the trees survive, because other leaves grow to replace them. Change is inevitable, and good.
Fall is a beautiful time, so no matter the weather, or the circumstances, or the politics, be sure to enjoy and celebrate it - ideally on your bike!
