The City of Toronto is continuing its work on the trails in the Crothers Woods area of the Don Valley. TORBA is teaming up with the COT through a build day to develop and refine some of the work already done. This is an opportunity for mountain bikers to improve the trails and give something back. The build will be led by IMBA and COT reps, so it will also be a chance to learn more about the overall strategy for these trails and to provide some feedback.

The COT have picked a great re-route section for us to work on north of Pottery Rd. The work will involve benchcutting, trail finishing, rock armouring and trail closure. There is a lot of work to be done, so the more of us that turn up, the sooner we will get these trails open.

Cycle Solutions will be providing prizes for participants!

The COT will provide water and light snacks, but you will need to bring your own lunch. Tools and gloves are provided.

TORBA AGM

This was held on April 28 at Whistlers Restaurant and Bar. Attendance was strong, with about 20 people turning up. Some new board members and officers were elected at the meeting, adding to those already on the board and bringing the total to five. The current structure is:

The President and Secretary are required to be on the board, while the VP and Treasurer do not. Deirdre graciously stepped down from the board as Secretary/Treasurer (she now has no formal role with TORBA, but will continue to be involved), to be replaced by Jim and Alastair. No additional people stood. One of our aims over the course of 2009 will be to get more people interested in TORBA so we can expand the board and officers next year.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Next TORBA Meeting (New Date)

When: 2 June 2009, 7pm (Note: Originally set for May 19th.)

What: The board will present an outline of our plan and calendar of events for 2009. We aim to have a variety of people attend, as we would appreciate input and suggestions on our plan. We would also like to get people involved in subcommittees to organise and manage some of the issues and events we will be working on. This is also an excellent opportunity for two way communication between TORBA and the mountain biking community, whether you want to be directly involved or not.

Clean Up the Don

When: Saturday May 23, 2009, 10am – 1:30pm

What: TORBA and University of Toronto Team Blue are teaming up again to clean up the Don Valley. Gloves and garbage bags will be provided.

Where:
Location 1 – TORBA starting point.
Loblaws Redway Road Trailhead
Stop by early (9:30am) for free Starbucks Coffee!
Our plan is to begin here and clean up a small area of Crother’s Woods before moving over to join Team Blue at Location 2.

Location 2 – Team Blue starting point.
ET Seton Park (enter at 77 Thorncliff Park Dr.)
Drinks and burgers will be provided.
Prize draw after the clean up.

What: 2 build days are in the planning stages with the City of Toronto to help improve our trails. Dates for this are yet to be decided. They will be in late September and early August.
